What you can experience:
Along the river Havel and between his arms extends the city
of Brandenburg, the town, which gave its name to the old Prussian
province and the new state Land Brandenburg. The very attractive
location at the riverside was the reason for Slavians and
Germans to fight for it in the early middle ages but Christianisation
finally brought peace. This marks the city's skyline: Three
huge churches dominate it, St. Gotthard, with more than 1000
years the oldest, the Cathedral, the former bishop's seat
separated on an island, and Katharinenkirche, the largest
in traditional brick stone. In many places small streets and
narrow lanes remind of the medieval ground plot, and half
a dozen fortification towers along remnants of walls and digs
create a unique atmosphere.
